Just months ago, at the height of all the Valentine's hype, I was able to watch the TV ads of Jollibee and I must admit two of those ads made me cry -- particularly the TV ad "Date" and "The Vow". I felt disappointed mostly with how the latter ended. Yeah, there were tears -- both for sadness and disappointment about how the advertisers concluded the story.
But the past few weeks, another brand new TVC for the same fastfood chain is making rounds online. Only this time, the bestman who was friendzoned in the earlier commercial was given a happy ending.
Or should I say hindi lang siya. Dahil maging ang girl na secretly in love at na friendzone ni bestman ay naging masaya din.
Yes, there was actually that kind of twist in the story that no one had seen nor expected in the earlier commercial.
Oo. There was a hopeful conclusion for them at the end of the TVC.
In a way, I felt good, even hopeful after seeing how the girl who "waited in vain" (and maybe became a victim of an unrequited love) got herself a happy ending later on -- and kay bestman pa rin at that. In a way Jollibee redeemed itself from the heartache and disappointment that their earlier commercial elicited to a lot of people (even Hollywood's Matthew McConaughey shed tears watching that commercial). Somehow, the TV ad fueled hopes for those folks struggling with the "friendzone rut". Because it proved in a way na kahit na-friendzone ka, pwedeng ka pa ring manalo at mahalin ng mismong nang-friendzone sa 'yo sa huli.
At one point, I wanted to question my thoughts kung matutuwa ba akong ako ang nagwagi after kong ma-friendzone sa guy na sa tingin ko ay the right one (if I were in the girl's shoes). But I don't want to spoil the good mood that the conclusion gave people (me included). And next to crying happy tears dahil finally ay nagka-lovelife na si bestman at hindi na siya Pambansang Best Friend lang) I was caught with these three lessons that proved to be true based on this TV ad, which I would rather focus on:
1. It pays to be (extremely) patient. Quoting the lines of the girl towards the end of the TV commercial, "minsan, kung maghihintay ka lang, darating din ang perfect para sa 'yo." Sure, the waiting game could be excruciating, exhausting even. But patience is indeed a virtue. At wala mang perfect na tao, the right one arrives at the right time. Good things do come to those who wait.
2. What is worth having will always be worth waiting for-- the same thing applies to love and the right person.
3.Be careful about the people you put in the friendzone. Whether you're a girl, or a guy, no one wants to be put in that "dreaded situation". At yung sinasabi ng mga matatanda na "mabilis ang balik ng karma" ay hindi lang basta kasabihan. It's something na in a way ay kailangan mo ring paniwalaan. Minsan, kung sino pa yung taong nasaktan dahil sa pangpi-friendzone mo, ay siya pala talagang nakalaan para sa 'yo.
Ikaw, na-friendzone ka rin ba? Have no fear. Kaunting pasensya, paghihintay at tiwala lang. Kung si girl on the TVC found her perfect pair, for sure, ikaw rin. You will find a fitting conclusion for the patience and for waiting. :-)
Because save for a few musts on the list and doctors appointments together with the work week that went for two days, this week has been one of those breeziest periods ever. And this one has been playing in my head for countless times today. Not to forget that payday has to be moved earlier because 15th is on a Sunday.
Now, who says Friday the 13th (always) spells bad luck? It's going to be a weekend too, so who's not excited.
Today, I found myself listening to this song while I try to unwind away from a busy afternoon. This one just brought back a lot of things -- both happy and sad memories and
things in between. It might seem to be a sad melody, but then its words, say a lot.
I'm so afraid to love you
But more afraid to lose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness
Deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me life
It simply makes some things meaningful just my listening and contemplating on the words. Yes it's true that there are things you just simply cannot, and maybe, should not forget, but then even the darkest memories would eventually be a thing of the past -- . because something far more significant will come. And listening to this is enough to offer me some minutes of solace in the middle of a swamped crowd.
My day was spent dealing with tons of tasks that mostly involved accounting and numbers. As luck would have it, a bout of migraine decided to join my busy day bandwagon. No wonder no one can blame me if I would say that I was at the verge of blowing my top off (don't take it literally as it's an idiom) with the fast pace and the pain that I was trying to balance with my schedule.
And just to keep things in equal measure, I had to keep this Jason Mraz song playing in repetition and I am particularly loving these lines:
You let yourself get mad
And in those times when you stop lovin'
That woman I adore
You can relax
Because, babe, I got your back
I don't wish to change you
You've got it under control
You wake up each day different
Another reason for me to keep holdin' on
I'm not attached to any way you're showing up
I'm just gonna love you like the woman I love
For now, I'm off to Dreamland as I am too consumed to think and write. I'll take time to come up with a better missive as soon as time permits me to, hopefully the soonest.

| Sorry for the spelling. I'm not a jejemon. I'm just sleepy. |
I was exchanging messages last night with Ma'am Cez, my former professor and the discussion we had led me to respond with those words. In a way, I was honest at telling her that I miss a friend. And as weird as it seemed, as I was listening to the radio on my phone while sending this message to her, the station played this song:
Call it a silly coincidence but when I think of it, sometimes fate intervenes in a funny way it wants. In my case, talk about good timing.
I could not blog much. Work has been overflowing after the five days (including weekends) of vacation for the Easter holiday. If you were to click on the picture below, that's the screenshot of my office calendar. It has most all of the events both personal and professional (READ: WORK RELATED).

| Pink, green and white = eye candy. |
I just returned to work two days ago but I've been extremely busy. I am anticipating that the pink marks will increase as each day arrives.
I know that what I need is a good night's rest and some soothing music to calm me down. And for now,
Heartbeats by
José Gonzáles does it for me to hush my being when things get nerve-wracking
Two days more to go before another weekend arrives.
Second day of the long weekend (the first for me for this year) and since I'm a bit lazy to write anything, let me just share the songs currently humming on my playlist.
Your Universe by Rico Blanco
While I am not much a fan of Rivermaya or of Rico back then, I have to make an exception with this one. I just got the ultimate LSS when I first heard of the song when I saw this
video. I'd play this song for some feel-good vibe when I am having a busy day. I particularly like the song's chorus. :-)
When God Made You by Hillsong and Natalie Grant
It's a the only Christian song that I have on my list and I keep playing it on my iPod Shuffle every night before I sleep. And I have to admit, whenever I listen this song, I am being reminded of just one person and a lot of "blessed" circumstances that leads me to meditate on the song's last line.
Have a great Sunday weekend everyone. :-)
Aside from the prevalence of shoppers hitting the malls, the presence of Christmas decorations and the cold mornings (which does not seem to be so lately), you would know that Christmas is just around the corner if you get to hear Yuletide hymns being played left and right.
I've been so used to hearing a lot of those Christmas songs. From the the old ones of the Jackson 5 (yeah, it's revealing how OLD I am) to the likes of Mariah Carey and Britney Spears. But if there would be anthems that would remind me of Christmas, it would be these two:
Whenever I hear Merry Christmas Darling by the Carpenters, that's the right smack sign that tells me it's Christmas time. Yes, the message itself is somewhat gloomy (READ: the song that fits the members of Samahan ng Malalamig ang Pasko) but thankfully, our own OPM artists came up with their own rendition. Right now, I prefer Kitchie Nadal's version as it gives the song a cheery, hopeful vibe.
See? You would just want to dance with it rather than sulk and be depressed in bed -- which is not the spirit of Christmas.
Another one that I love is Last Christmas by the group Wham. I know for sure that there are some people singing this and hoping that, just like how the lines in the song says, this year their heart would go to someone special.
I'm not really thinking much of the message of the song but this reminded me of this weird and funny side story. In January of this year, I had this out of whim, (as in wala lang) thought in my head that if I do hear any Christmas song played not during the Christmas season, I'll finally "have someone special" next year. I did not take that seriously, but guess what? I heard this song being played on the radio, not during the "ber" month but in a warm summer afternoon. And it happened not just once but two times--April 26, 2012 and May 30, 2012 and it really made my goosebumps rise in disbelief. But then again, while it made me smile, I would rather dismiss the thought and take it as just a silly coincidence.
How about you, are you humming to any Christmas song as well? Do you have a Yuletide playlist that you listen to nowadays? Drop me a line and let's sing to that! :-)
There were these thoughts running in my mind for some months now. And I found a perfect description through this song. While the best part is in the chorus, these lines got me best:
You're such a hard act for me to follow
Love me today don't leave me tomorrow, yeah
But if I fall for you, i'll never recover
If I fall for you, I'll never be the same.
To sum it all: If I fall for you, I'll never be the same.
Sometimes, it gives off that good feeling just thinking how it's like to fall and love someone.
Just a quick post for tonight because it's another long weekend (another work-free Monday, Woot!). Let me share two things I've discovered this week.
Sorry for the blurry photo as I used my Nokia X2-01 because I kept losing my digicam's battery. Anyway, I've had this book
How to Find Your One True Love by Catholic preacher Bo Sanchez in my little library for six years now. While it's been in my possession for that long, I really haven't deciphered much of it. Over the past week, I've been taking a few minutes each day to read a page or two. And well, it had to be 6 years in order for me to clearly get the lessons discussed in this book.
I've been a fan of those songs from the past -- including Stephen Bishop. Just yesterday, while listening to the radio, I heard this song,
On and On which is among Bishop's originals and one of my favorites being sung by a band named Pido. I never heard of an OPM rendition of this song until yesterday and it's indeed music to my ears, I kept listening on it as of this writing. It's such a refreshing version to an old favorite.
That's going to be all for now. I'll resume with my the research/investigation I'm doing. I hope everyone's having a great weekend.
When a man loves a woman,
He can't keep his mind on nothin' else
He'd trade the world
For a good thing he's found.
Time for a quick post since my day was not as hectic as the past weeks.
I have not been to McDonald's for some time, blame it with me being occupied and glued to the files that I am working on but after seeing the fast food chain's newest ad, and its newest endorser, Xian Lim, I guess I'd try to squeeze some minutes to go back to that three-minute walk to their branch one of these days.
Who would not be enticed? Just think someone as dashingly cute as Xian serenades you with his mellow version of Katrina and the Waves's Walking on Sunshine first thing in the morning...
The thought just leaves me giddy like Awwwww!!!!
You and Me
Lifehouse
What day is it? And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive
I can't keep up and I can't back down
I've been losing so much time
'Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all other people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you
One of the things that I want to say just aren't coming out right
I'm tripping on words
You've got my head spinning
I don't know where to go from here
'Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all other people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you
There's something about you now
I can't quite figure out
Everything she does is beautiful
Everything she does is right
'Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all other people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you
and me and all other people with nothing to do
Nothing ton, prove
And it's you and me and all other people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you
What day is it?
And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive
It started Saturday night while I was watching a program on TV. and up until now, this song, You and Me from the American band Lifehouse has been ringing in my head.
Just like the story, I found this song to be somewhat special and powerful; to which my realizations would be found in a separate post.
Often, we believe and choose that straight path to be the shortest but best way to our destination; that we tend to ignore the broken paths and only see them as the road that deserve to be less traveled.
But what we don't realize is this: It might be broken, but it doesn't mean it's useless. For in that broken path lies one blessing that we might not find in the shortest, easiest road.
I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like Northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true
Now I'm just rolling home
Into my lover's arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
Thanks, Patty Laurel for your wonderful
blog post that inspired me to write this today and for encouraging me to believe in one of the best things (or probably, forces) in the world.
It's fun to think that Christmas season could be compared to Valentine's Day. While one of my friends was addicted to a Valentine's date dinner video, I on the other hand spent Christmas Eve watching these two videos. Marriage proposals seem to be "trending" these days. I know this one's a delayed reaction but I just had the chance to watch a very interesting marriage proposal that's been viral in Facebook only last night!
After following the links, I found out that the guy in the video was Timothy Tiah Ewe Tiam, the co-founder of Nuffnang (which provides ads to my blog) and the girl was blogger, Audrey Ooi Feng Ling . While some people call the proposal "was too nerdy", I don't see anything that's corny in it. I even think it's creative as who would have thought image memes could be placed in a wonderful use as that! And by nerdy, I guess it's true that the nerdy ones are often the romantic creatures.
From proposals in a foreign land, another one that captured my attention was this one posted by a former colleague. Upon watching the video closely, I realized that the guy on it was no other than running coach, Rio dela Cruz. It prompted me to immediately tag some of my former office mates in Makati, who (kinda) know Coach Rio, as they were runners as well. I can't help but be both giddy and teary eyed just watching it and hearing their story. I know it's shallow. but who'd have thought, that the simple query for directions would eventually lead to an accidental meet up inside a jeepney and a love story. Fast forward to 2011, with another jeepney ride, the champion runner falls on one knee to ask a million-dollar question!
Surprises! Love! It really takes a lot to put up something as incredibly great as these. I almost forgot it's actually Christmas and V-day is still months away. :-)
I say it saved my sanity because today, I (together with my immediate supervisor) was the only person in the project to report to the office for the scheduled mandatory rotation. I decided to get the slot for today since it's the last day of the work week.
What I did? Well, except for just one assignment that I finished thankfully before the day ended, I just sat there observing if in case the phone's going to ring -- which never happened as people are already on a holiday, and to eat lunch at McDonalds. But let me be clear, I'm not complaining. I'm actually thankful that I get to experience this kind of environment as this is positively different compared to what I previously had.
I know I'm supposed to be listening to Yuletide tunes as Christmas is just two days away. But I had to tweak it by listening to these songs. Funny but as I listen to it, I found some wonderful lines too!
Love is joy and love is pain
It's kissing in the rain
It's doing dishes when it's late
Isn't it, baby
It's the art of compromise
It's hellos and long goodbyes
It's the picture of our lives
I found this song after watching Jolina Magdangal and Mark Escueta's wedding video through my brother who is one of the cinematographers who worked on this project.
And all along I believed that I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more
This one, I found while listening to the radio using my mobile phone in the middle of doing my research at the office this morning. And while it worked its magic in saving me from boredom, I just found myself memorizing the lines of the song at the end of the day.
Quoting Snow Patrol from their song,
Chasing Cars:
If I just lay here,
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world.
As short as that.
For I could no longer find the words to illustrate the present.
So, I was thinking of what to post again when all of a sudden this song just played out of the blue. Cheesy, I know! But if not for the person who kept playing this song at the office every morning, this post won't be here in the first place. Now, this one from Richard Marx and Donna Lewis never fails to bring me back to the time when I dated a former colleague, J almost eight months ago.
I first heard of this song from a wedding website (if I'm not mistaken, it was that of his brother's -- which I saw on Facebook). At the Beginning was a song used in the animated film Anastasia. While I still dream of bringing home Mickey Mouse, whenever I hear this song, it never failed to remind me of J; and that's despite he loves Broadway soundtracks than that of Disney's.
All the while, I was working and on duty for my shift on Valentine's evening and likewise despite the colorful and crimson-infused environment, I had already set on a resolve that there is nothing worth looking forward to so I just decided to work my ass out just like how it normally is.
Though we are lucky to have some fun with the V-day activities executed by the support group of the management. Just minutes prior to my lunch break, I just found myself singing to this song, Love is All Around by the band Wet, Wet, Wet. I was discreetly humming to that tune when out of the blue, my immediate supervisor told me these lines that left me agape in disbelief:
"I heard your name mentioned before they played the song."
It was a song, yes. And while I was placed in a hotseat for like 30 seconds or so being asked if I have a boyfriend from a different department, I had to be swift with the clarification.
"Wala po akong boyfriend dito. Single na single po ako." (I don't have a boyfriend. I am very much single.)
For all you know, the person behind that surprise could be a girl too. Now, who would have thought that only those lovey-doves have the right to be giddy in delight? Aside from this surprise, the morning before, I actually gave out a fearless shoutout on my Twitter account (but that's not the controversial, scandalous one you think of, okay). I'd object because for today I got a slice of the cake too. And I have the right to be happy at that.
Since I am on soloflight working mode for Valentine's Day, I just decided to spend time browsing on my Facebook and Twitter account from where I found this video link in one of the Tweets I am following.
Seeing Divine Lee whip up yummy dishes in her posh kitchen not jest left my eyes and tummy in a gastronomic feast but left me with a rather strong conviction of pushing a plan back again. Resume to and take my cooking skills seriously -- another notch higher.
It's been a long time since I tried cooking for two. Yup, you heard that right. I used to cook for two. Being in the kitchen whipping up breakfast (in my pajamas) or even dinner (in either shirt and jeans or the usual smart casuals arriving from work) is one of the things that give me both relief and a sense of accomplishment. And these days being in auto pilot US timezone mode working in the night shift, I normally find myself up by 5am (I get to complete three hours or so of sleep, if I get lucky I get eight or nine) and in instances like that, these days, I would just find myself preparing breakfast again by myself.
They say the best way (not just to a man's) to the heart is through the stomach. I admit that I do miss cooking for two and I'd love to do it again; as I still believe that nothing beats that wonderful feeling of whipping and sharing a hearty meal. These days mom kept reminding me of that skill I have set aside. And since getting a job last year, I have been seeing myself shopping with mom for groceries and the whole kitchen-related stuff on times when I'm just home. I'd like to believe that I can probably take that "domestic goddess" title at least even during the weekend.
More than just a conventional belief that the art of cooking possessing that kitchen skill is just for ladies to have, the gesture is what I consider a real labor of love.
Happy V-day people.
