I know that I mentioned a very strict protocol that writers and journalists seriously adhere in this post about a year ago. For the longest time that I am writing, I have tried my very best to follow this very important rule.
But I suppose despite extreme caution, sometimes it (or I) should fail. Caution isn't always fool proof in some senses. That was what I discovered last Friday -- yep, on my birthday itself. I was watching my managing editor as she replied to an email. Upon reading the name of the recipient and the word "apologize" I already sensed that there was something wrong.
And I was indeed right. I misspelled an important person's name. And while I tried to remedy the problem by emailing my editors the correct spelling, I think it did not arrive on time.
Of course, upon learning that, I admitted my mistake and was really apologetic for it. My mom, upon learning that the incident reacted, even thought it's too shallow but I understand.
Thankfully, while my offense could have cost me an arm and a leg, my bosses are forgiving. Yes, it's such a shame on my part and I hope and will try that this will be the first and last time it's going to happen.
Aside from the rainy days and becoming busy with projects, there are two other things that is making my October:
That's what LEVEL-UP means!
From receiving a bronze award in 2006, MMLDC moves another notch higher. This year, they won second place in the Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan of the Department of Labor and Employment. Such award just proves that the company is serious when they mean business -- including the initiatives on the aspect of occupational safety and health. Not all of the institutions in the country are fortunate to have been conferred with such award and to the company and its people, being awarded with one is an absolute bliss while being motivated to continue the value of excellence.
The other would be this:
The third quarter issue of MMLDC Highlights is out! And what's causing the giddy excitement? One, recent LP senatorial candidate Atty. Alex Lacson is one of our feature wirters with a very interesting article on the Filipino today and two, I just did the two "prominent" sections. Ever since I wrote for the magazine four years ago, I never believed in transforming wishful thoughts to reality. But now, I come to realize, I unconsciously made it -- again. Back then, I thought of the idea that time shall come when I'll be doing the cover story, and shrug the whole thing off my head, reasoning out that it's too ambitious and simply moved one assignment after the other. The themes nowadays are far different but I still find it challenging. We're now on our last quarter issue for 2010 and we're in the process of filling it with lots of ideas about preparing for the holidays and suggestions for the travel junkies out there, in case you plan to spend the season away from home for a change.
How about you, what is making your month? Drop me a comment, I would love to know.

Dropping for a few minutes to blog about my weekend. Well, things are doing great. I'd like to say that there are a lot of things to be happy and thankful of. While it has been a busy five days, I'd like to say it was all worth it as I was able to accomplish pretty enough important things.
What are those? Let me give you a rundown:
The membership application and my accommodating ophthalmologist. Since I was diagnosed with glaucoma last year, I've been taking my prescriptions seriously. The thing though is the price. The medication costs almost an arm and a leg and my Pfizer membership card expired a few weeks ago. Early this week, I received the membership form (which I requested last August) and all I needed was to have my doctor sign the form (to which he gladly obliged) and for me to have it mailed back to the manufacturer's office in Makati and I can use my card again.
Health insurance and Social Security premiums. Somewhatrelated to that first item as I will be needing them too, I started paying for my Philhealth and Social Security contributions early this year which I neglected for long. Being able to furnish both is really an accomplishment especially nowadays.
My articles for the third quarter issue of Highlights. I thought of returning to the magazine on the fourth issue but as I do this entry, I have finished two articles for the third issue and we're eagerly awaiting for its release, and I'm off to mark a milestone too -- but I'll have the detail on hold for now.
More assignments. Together with the magazine, there are a lot of writing projects too. And I don't mind spending even the weekend drafting articles and tinkering on the keyboard for that.
Green tips debut! Tentenen! :-p
My contribution to the MMLDC's Facebook page starts today. I was blessed with another project and while it's not part of the job description, these days, it has been part of my morning routine to watch out for the number of fans. It makes me giddily happy (just like everybody) whenever I see it increasing. Right now, we're eagerly awaiting for the 1000th fan mark which could be reached anytime today -- the lastest within the week. At the same time, MMLDC is giving away a prize for a very lucky fan. Click here for the mechanics or visit MMLDC's page on Facebook now. Who knows, that lucky fan could be you.
I'm going back to catch the movie on TV now. Have a great weekend folks.

...and I'm not talking about the infant conceived the way you think it is.
Indeed there are lots of reasons to be proud.
I'm talking about MMLDC Highlights' last issue for this year. While I was waiting for the text message (that never arrived) from Kenstar Graphics, one of my editors emailed me and told me that the baby has arrived. Which prompted me to go to the office today. Having secured my copies at hand, I went to my darling editor, Ms. Kay Abella's office and asked her (with that wide smile on my face) "your first baby is out! What do you think?" which left us both laughing and giggling to our heart's content.
Actually, this issue isn't just only my darling editor's panganay. In a way, I was like a first-time mother too. I've been with the magazine for three years but I only write my own stuff and sometimes edit someone else's work when needed. But because my managing editor needed to be away, I accepted the huge not to mention tasking yet challenging responsibility of rearing the magazine; which meant overseeing the whole structure not just jotting and editing but coordinating with the editors, the printing press and at times having to decide on my own (when it's just minor) where and what photo to put or remove in the pages. And like a woman going through the whole bout of pains and the birthing process, I must say this is worth the aches and the long, winding, head-turning sleepless nights.
The fruit of months of hard labor--meet the baby! :-p
In a few days, another year's coming to a close. My dear reader, I hope you don't mind if I'll be ecstatic by a higher level just for this time. After all, accomplishing something this big is so fulfilling--including the fact that the effort was appreciated. Worthy indeed to shout it out--cheers for this labor of love.
It has been two weeks since I last wrote on this zone. And now I am saying anyongihaseyo (in Korean, that's HELLO) again. My long absence was because of a lot of things; from updating or should I say revamping a concealed blog to overseeing the operations of the magazine. My managing editor had to file a leave thus entrusting me with the task as coordinator (I'd rather put it that way--rather than call myself as OIC managing editor, which I don't think to be appropriate) for the quarterly publication. Which really left me really busy.
The said endeavor left me working on like the usual office schedule. For most days, I found myself working from 9am to 5 pm in front of the PC monitoring the emails from my editor, checking the drafts and coordinating with the printing press. This seemed to be a routine that mom actually finds taxing.
But don't get me wrong. Despite having the task, I don't complain. I am used to it actually. And handling the magazine taught me new lessons. It showed me how it is like to do the whole thing; not just write and revise like what I have been doing for three years (actually it's eight years, if you'll include being in the college paper). It was fun that because I've been seeing the same pages, emailing the same stuff to the same people, it came to a point that I have memorized the contents and the place where to put what already.
The great news is that we're almost done and the magazine is just a few steps away from being printed. I can't hardly wait for the output.
Meralco Development Center is celebrating its 10th year this month. The past, week Highlights released a special anniversary issue which looked so great.
For this issue, I was tasked to do the article on the editors and writers. As my managing editor, Ms. Peng asked me which to work on, I asked for this on which she happily obliged. This article actually consumed three or four pages. Yep, it's a lot but I enjoyed writing and doing the research for this article; because of this, I was able to know and learn more about my darling editors. It sent my goosebumps up again seeing my article next to the message of one of the big bosses.
Talk about assignments, since some of the other writers were busy with their own business, I obliged to handle two more sections. MMLDC is such a nice place (okay, aside from it's famous too) for teambuildings and business events of other top companies and of course, a top choice for blissful events like weddings. (FYI: MMLDC just made a special appearance on one of the episodes of The Wedding which starred Anne Curtis, Zanjoe Marudo and Derek Ramsey; also, some parts of the Pendant episode of MMK which starred Toni Gonzaga and Ryan Eigenman were shot here).
Being one of their writers, I had handled a lot of topics in the three years. I've been a witness to some of those fruitful endeavors (including the yearly Educator's Forum and the SBMDP project) and by being a part of the editorial board, it makes me feel good at the fact that MMLDC is more than just being Meralco's own. It feels good seeing that the company gives back to the community too. More than just a business, they help out in making a difference in the society.
MMLDC has been in the business for a decade. I've been writing for the magazine for more than three years. It's such a nice thought that despite of the freelance job (which hopefully would emerge into something more promising), I was able to take part in celebrating a milestone in the company. I feel lucky to have been given the opportunity to tell people by writing what this institution can do.I know this is the least that I could. In one of my posts, one of my editors thanked me for giving so much (of my talent and devotion probably) but then, I am just giving them back what is supposed to be due. Because they gave me much too. More than just the opportunity of working with a world-class institution, they helped me achieve my heart's desire. Cheers to the first ten years. Hopefully, I would still be writing for the next ten--or more.

The editorial board of the magazine has been busy preparing for the anniversary issue scheduled to be released hopefully next month. As of this writing, I just finished writing another article for one of the sections. I'm happy that one of my works were included for the "best issues" of the magazine; my hard work is paying me off. Yet, lately I have thoughts running in my head about my career as a writer. I do love this thing but then, I also yearn for career and financial stability. These days, there had been moments when I think about it. Sometimes I have doubts too of leaving this in exchange for another career. But then I knew I simply can't leave my being a writer. Despite of the joy that I get pursuing my passion, I also want to achieve a thing that I'll be doing daily. For three years, I've been serving MMLDC in a freelance basis and within that span of time, I knew I'm happy with the company. I am happy with the company of people I am working with. I must admit that for such a long time, It was my earnest hope that I could serve the company for good. At 24, I also long for stability. I've been career-driven and now that I've had my wish of being a published writer before I reach 30, I am already happy realizing that. This time, I'd want to serve the company for good. Although I'd still want to write for the magazine. I told one of my editors about it--that if ever I'd be hired to work for any post in the company, I'd still be willing to write for the magazine just so that I would be able to practice my craft and pursue my passion which I think is what's really in my veins. I was once asked by somebody, what made you stay with MMLDC for three years being a freelance writer and you only live paycheck after paycheck? It's plain simple but true, my response was:because I'm happy writing, practicing the craft and I enjoy the company of people I am working with. That despite of their ranks, my bosses treat employees not as plain ones but like a family. They make me and their other crew feel important. One time I remember telling my mom, if my application (to other companies) won't work--which happens most of the time, then probably I'm really destined to serve and stay in MMLDC. When you're happy and you know it, it's really hard to leave. Or to put it appropriately, you won't think much about leaving. I declined an opportunity waiting for me in Australia in 2008 because it would mean goodbye to writing for MMLDC Highlights--and I can't afford to quit. Thus in my current situation, I take part-time jobs in order for me to still write for Highlights. At least while I'm not yet working for MMLDC as an employee. The other thing why I've been looking forward a stable career? I'm saving up for my next plan--going on a Disneyland trip--again before 30.

Since the day I had finally gotten an internet connection at home, a bit of my routine has changed. Everyday, I've found myself checking my emails and catching up with my relatives in Toronto first thing in the morning when I wake up. But that's just one.
This is my brother's new baby. The PC where you'll find me with my coffee in the morning. Although I still have my own desktop PC working--though the screen's color is green, this is where the Internet connection is.
I also decided to sport a new haircut. A sign of my liberation from being a bastardized girlfriend, I decided to make myself look gorgeous--doing it for my self-esteem. And like what my best friend Appple said, masarap sa pakiramdam ang magpaganda (being beautiful makes you feel good), it is indeed putting my spirits up.
Still into writing for Highlights, we're coming out with a Special Anniversary issue next month. And I'm glad to be very busy with writing the articles. I have developed a wonderful and harmonious relationship in this industry--being here for three years. Honestly, it is my ardent prayer to work with MMLDC not just as a freelancer but I hope to work in the institution for good. I know more than ever, this is where my heart really is.
I'm also into Facebook. And it's actually quite addicting. More fun than Friendster. I found another way to catch up with friends.
These are just a few of the things that I love nowadays. I can say life's blissful for me now. I hope my heart's going to find its happiness soon. After all, bliss begins with two words--LOVE ACTUALLY.

Back from the land of gods and goddesses. That's what I call Meralco Development Center, the office where I serve as a writer/ editor for the past three years. Yup--that's corporate and training environment setting (actually, I just learned from my managing editor that aside from being a training center, MMLDC is actually an NGO) but what makes me stick to that environment aside from enjoying my work is the people I am working with. They're all nice and absolutely hunks and babes as in beautiful and handsome people--attitude wise and the physical of course.
To see how these gods and goddesses look like, consider these photos:
Sometimes, we need no other explanations. We're working our butt out but we need to have fun too right?
Now, today I got to see this guy named Paulo from marketing and Ernest, the ever-reliable editor that I haven't seen for such a long time. Due to my job as a teacher, I have been doing some of my writing on a flexi-time basis at home for some days so I don't get to see them often. But probably that will change because there are a lot of work to do now. Of course, the environment is still cool, bubbly, loud and full of laughter and energy. The marketing people thought I was there as a trainee but I cleared it up telling them that I have been writing for the magazine for three years and I had some bonding time with them. They we're a bit embarrassed for I've been hearing them talking about "green" stuff but then I'm used to that though I don't divulge. They asked some few but not that personal questions. They asked me of my civil status and while I said the real thing that I am single--no attachments or pending relationships--not even married (it doesn't mean any offense to me anyway), the guys remarked out of the blue matching me with somebody (they think I'm just sitting quietly but then my ears are all up to everything). I know Paulo as the guy that I see in the marketing department where the editorial staff holds office; normally when my managing editor is out, it's him who I approach to get my copy of the magazine. Although I don't get to talk lengthily enough with him--okay, just now but the conversation lasted for just some minutes--and I don't consider it lengthy. He's accommodating like everyone (probably because I am visiting that's how they do it with other clients and visitors), and I think he's nice. But it makes me feel awkward when he refers to me using the term ma'am. Most people in the office do that actually, I'd be fine when they address me by my first name but then, that's SOP. Probably I'll tell them about it one time. On the other hand, I met Ms. Eve too (one of the members of the Academic Services Department where I also serve). Of course, our meeting was packed with the usual hug and beso. When she told me that Ernest was with him, I grabbed the chance to step out of the marketing office to have a glimpse of him. And well, when he greeted me with that simple hello, the butterflies in my stomach became alive. Since I began doing projects with the Acad people, I have worked in tandem with Ernest on some projects including transcriptions and the 4th quarter issue of Highlights in 2007 (which was my favorite issue). He's one handyman when it comes to lay outing and PhotoShop editing; thank God for techie creatures like him, he once came to my rescue when I encountered trouble with PhotoShop techniques and shortcuts. He also once tested my courage that made me do something I never thought I have the guts to. Ernest also earned much of my admiration when I saw him pray during our lunch with other Acad members. And what else can I say but he's still good looking as ever.
And maybe I really have to slow down at work for a lot of people have been noticing the weight loss that I've been having lately. From Ma'am Cez, my parents and now my bosses as well as Ms. Eve and Ernest. I might have had a bad hair day with my teaching today but I'd rather not dwell and divulge much on it. I have a lot to be happy about including a big project and articles lined up. And being surrounded with hunks makes me squealing in giddy delight and maybe I'll be off to Dreamland with an ear-to-ear smile on my face. Indeed, ang sarap mapalibutan ng gwapo (being surrounded with good-looking guys really feels good) I feel like a goddess too in some way. hee...hee... Talk about the blessing and best part of singlehood.
Saturday weekend. The past week was full of jumbles, surprises and happy things. It was yesterday too when I realized the amateur photographer in me. Yipee! A new career. And as I was toying with my brother's Canon 300D camera and the past issues of T&D Highlights (the mag where I have been writing for two years) scattered over my bed, the though came into my head, why not give each one a solo shot--just like documenting my two-year "love affair" with the magazine.
So after one hour sweating out and struggling for the best angles, these are what came out of my first shot as an amateur. I know I'm not that good at it yet and I still need my brother's help in befriending his camera so I apologize for the not-so nice shots.
2006: STARTING ANEW WITHOUT THE RESIDUE
So this was the first issue when I debuted writing for them in 2006. Fresh from graduating in college and resigning from my job as an editorial assistant, I was invited by my former professor Sir Ariel Vidanes who was working for MMLDC Foundation Inc to write for their HR magazine and I welcomed the idea well. To the point that I have been too immersed in it for two years now. And for that first assignment, I wrote a sidebar article about online school operations. It was followed by the next issue which featured a fast-growing industry as well as the Corporate Social Responsibility theme in the 3rd issue. Sadly I needed to say bye-bye for the meantime to attend to other job-related matters. I wrote for 3 issues for that year.
2007: THE RESIDENT WRITER'S COMEBACK!
After some failed attempts in the BPO world, Sir Ariel asked if I want to be a project based-transcriptionist for one of their projects and again I said YES. And together with the transcribing job, I also asked if the idea to write for the mag is still welcomed to which he gave a positive reply. So in the first quarter of 2007, I started rolling my ideas in.
In line with the upcoming elections in May, the company released the issue on Responsible Citizenship. It's one of my favorite issues ever because...
I got to write a full-page book review about the books of author Bob Ong! It was the first time I got to consume a page of the magazine for my article and it was the sign that I was waiting. That this is going to continue! The start or big projects and making it big time! Weeks after the release of this issue, Sir Ariel handed me a faxed mail from a happy client who was asking for additional copies to be sent to his associates.
This was the third quarter issue of T & D Highlights which featured Smart Telecom's big boss Polly Nazareno on the cover. It was a familiar issue for the material used for Leadership Beakthroughs was actually his speech during the Management Workshop in MMLDC in April---the speech which was transcribed by me! Oh and another thing, I was assigned to write about the improvements in the Aviary too included in that issue. Funny thing, I was doing my ocular visit in the midst of a rainy day and I forgot my umbrella in the studio. Thank God, someone from the housekeeping came to the rescue and offered me her umbrella.
And this issue is my second favorite. Released just in time for Christmas, I was then given the chance too to work in MMLDC as a coordinator and it was such a blessing too. Aside from that I also got to close a deal with Sir Ariel looking out for someone in the media to answer one question and thank God for Mr. Nestor Cuartero of the Philippine Panorama who obliged to represent his colleagues from the media.
I'm a 30-something Millennial Tita from the Art Capital of the Philippines and I express what's on my mind (may it be a good experience or otherwise) through writing. Feel free to explore the fragments of my mind which you can find in this blog.
Oh and forget the formalities. You can call me Glaiza!
